Instant bank transfer fraud is decreasing thanks to the effectiveness of prevention measures such as verifying the beneficiary’s IBAN and greater customer attention.
The latest report drawn up by the Bank of Italy for the second half of 2025 certifies a still higher fraud rate compared to ‘traditional’ bank transfers, but a substantial reduction (-38% compared to the first six months of last year and -53% compared to the second half of 2024).
Similar findings emerge with reference to the fraud rate calculated on the number of transactions: 0.012% for instant bank transfers (-40% from the previous semester and -57% compared to the same period in 2024) and 0.002% for ordinary transfers.
