Italian wages grew by less than inflation in second quarter says Istat

First fall in real terms after 10 consecutive quarters of growth says statistics agency

Istat said Wednesday that Italian wages grew by less than inflation in the second quarter of 2026, ending a run of 10 consecutive quarters in which wages increased in real terms.

The national statistics agency said the the average annual growth in contractual hourly wages was 2.5% in the April-June period, while the annual inflation rate for the quarter was 3%.
